A New Carsten!

Here are some pictures of our new addition: Shadow Link. We adopted her from the Humane Society and her name was Batty, due to the long tufts on her ears and her super long canine teeth ( do felines have canine teeth?). She has spent most of her first few weeks recuperating from whatever she caught at the HS, and climatizing herself with Gwyn and vice versa. they get along great now, so her quarantine will not last much longer.

Brit Pop with Kate Nash!

This little ditty made Brandy and I laugh; it was only later that I found out she was laughing because her 18 year old memories could relate to some of it! I think it had something to do with Tom Crelley and beer.

Old News, New Post

Here are a couple of photos of the first concrete countertop I made, before and after the pour.

Here is the second countertop I made. This one is much larger, so it is in 3 pieces. The shop photo shows it before grinding and polishing.

I made this table out of pallets! The wood is mostly maple with a bit of oak. As you can see, it folds up on the wall to save space. It is rarely up, however, as there are at least 3 projects (including meals) at any given time spread all over it. There are tons of nails in the wood in a 5 dot pattern like a die, and I kept a knot in one of the slats for character.

Loreena McKennitt

After dropping Olwyn off for her first sleep-over at a friend's house, Brandy, Connor, and I went to see Loreena McKennitt at the Pikes Peak Center. We were hoping she would do a meet and greet somewhere before the show, but no luck. The show was great, and the musicians and their many world instruments ( the hurdy-gurdy is my new favorite ) were super tight. After the show, we went for a late dinner and then started home. I had read on her site that she signs autographs and the like at the stage door after her shows, so we chanced it and drove by. Sure enough, there was a crowd of about 10 people around herself!
We parked and ran over. Connor was super excited to meet her, and she was very gracious. We were the last people there and it was quite windy, so she pulled us inside to converse and snap a couple photos. It was, for Connor, the best possible ending ever ( even better than ice cream! ).

Connor's Joke

Says Connor:

Hey, dad, why was the water molecule at the top of the glass so nervous? Because he had so much surface tension!

Connor's First Fish!

Connor and I went up to Happy Meadows on the South Platte for a few hours, and he caught a rainbow! I was about 10 yards away when he started yelling his head off, and his rod had the telltale bow. I rushed over to help him land it, but all I really did was hold the net as he guided it in. Did I mention that this was his first day on the river with a fly rod?
